A New Generation, A New Television Program For The Future:
Viva Vida

Christian Productions International (CPI) is moving forward with the television ministry. For years, Con La Biblia Abierta, has been the TV program used to win souls for Christ. It continues to be used to its maximum potential for the glory of God. Our new television program, Viva Vida, is now being developed and is based on the needs of this current generation.

Now there is a new generation of lost souls that have grown up with satellite TV, the Internet, reality programming, and instant messaging. These people want sincere answers to their questions. Viva Vida is if focused on reaching this generation for Christ.

The following highlights the direction of the new television program:

Pilot Program Goal: January 2012 we began this great task by filming the pilot program. The thirty-minute pilot program will be made up of short segments, three to four-minutes, in a magazine style format. Each of these concise segments will deliver a complete message related to the overall Christ-centered theme of the program.

Focus: Each segment will deliver the Gospel of Christ, focusing on attracting the "unchurched" population to think about God. The intent of this program is to reach out to the lost. The quality must be such that a person not looking for God will be drawn to the program, choose to watch the program, and understand the love of Christ.

Elements: Some examples of segment elements under development that use every day life to teach about Christ are: Hispanic cultural segments, cooking/recipe segments, financial advice segments, family advice segments, health segments, Church of Christ ministries exposure segments, etc.

Media Outlets: Different media outlets will be utilized to distribute the message to people: television, Youtube, podcasts, downloads, and more…

Upgrades: Programs will be edited with closed captioning and/or subtitles, for the benefit of the hearing impaired, as well as, an aid for those using the program as an evangelistic tool.

Outreach: Development of a parallel website, Facebook, and twitter accounts to enhance the outreach potential for each person in our new audience.

Production Goal: After field testing the pilot, the program will be filmed and edited on the schedule of a series, or more, completed on a yearly basis.

Reaching Cuba Through Radio

Recently, I have been sharing with you the efforts to reach Cuba through radio. Going to Cuba, asking and listening to the advice of our brothers there have brought about our recent success.

Paving the way for us on radio in Cuba historically has been the Herald of Truth. They have given us guidance both from within Cuba and from their ministry based in Abilene, Texas.

While many of you know of their outreach over the years, you may not have been able to meet Tony Fernandez. He has been a vital part of leading a follow-up team of evangelists in Cuba that respond to radio programs produced by Timothy Archer, Lea La Biblia, and Juan Monroy, Heraldo de la Verdad. We have also been blessed by Tony’s efforts as he has included the listeners of our radio program La Voz Alegre in the efforts of his follow-up team.

This spirit of fellowship in our common cause to share Christ is enabling us all to reach more souls. We thank the Herald of Truth for their vision in reaching the lost.

Tony plans to be in Abilene, Texas and Harding University during a visit to the USA. If you get a chance to meet him please encourage him and the Herald of Truth ministry.

WONDERFUL NEWS!

Traveling to the mission field involves a lot of prayer, planning, and shipping
those basic necessities that will help the missionary live and share the message of Jesus in a foreign land.

I remember arriving with Brenda and our two young children in Papua New Guinea, PNG, in December of 1977. Although we had arrived, it would be months later before our belongings would. Our earthly “essentials” had been very carefully packed into one small wooden crate and four 55 gallon metal drums, that were welded shut. We waited with great anticipation for their arrival. Across the Pacific Ocean they floated from exotic port to port.

The day finally arrived, our ship had come in. We were like children on Christmas morning opening the crate and barrels; we felt like a piece of home had followed us to the mission field.

We are now filled with that same anticipation! World Christian Broadcasting has shipped their technical “essentials”. The final pieces of this enormous technology/broadcasting puzzle, the transmitters, have finally been packed, loaded on the ship in Houston and has sailed for Madagascar. Each of the three transmitters is packed in shipping containers the size of a semi trailer. This is a much larger load than my shipping crates and barrels sent to PNG in 1977, but the anticipation of their arrival is just as great. Once the transmitters are installed we will be a part of sending the Gospel, via this new station, to all of: Latin America, the Arab world, Africa, India, and Europe. For the very first time, the Gospel will be made available to all of the world through a broadcasting signal. This will give every individual on our planet access to the hope through Jesus Christ.

This is marvelous! For me, this is a complete turnaround in media outreach from my former 1977 Papua New Guinea experience, one government radio station and no television. Rather than spending two and a half days to walk to a remote village to share Jesus, God has gifted us with the capability to use media to span the globe with His message. It is amazing how God's plans come together.

More exciting plans for 2012 include:
• Cuba and Dominican Republic Radio Listener Seminars
• Launching our daily 3 hour radio broadcast from Madagascar with
World Christian Broadcasting. Our prayer is that the station will be
ready in March or April.
• Begin new television production of Viva Vida this month
• Begin developing radio programs for Brazil to be broadcast from Madagascar
• Continue the training of talent for radio and television production
• Develop the strongest relationship possible with follow-up teams both foreign
and domestic
• Partnering with other ministries that help us share Christ's message to our
world

News from Cuba
La Voz Alegre (The Happy Voice)
With the strongest reception on the eastern half of the nation, requests for Bible courses and prayers have come in this month from all over the country. Reports from Matanzas, Cuba let us know that each month, so far, 70 to 75 listeners have written in to the P.O. Box. It is also reported that radio listener clubs have begun meeting to tune into the Lord's programs on Trans World Radio.

So what is a radio listener club? It is a group of people who meet in a home and study the Bible. They listen to the radio programs, study the message, then discuss the topic. The first listener group to form was in Punta de Maisi, Cuba, in the east end of the island.

The brothers in Cuba have also shared that Vladamir Cerveño Diaz, from Camaguey who works to eradicate mosquitoes, uses his work visits house to house to promote the programs on TWR. Due to his desire to share Christ's message, they have received several letters from this area of the country. Tony is doing a great job in promoting our programs and handling the follow-up. Please keep him, our Cuban brethren, and all of the listeners in your prayers.

Leon, Mexico... the missionaries there are using the DVDs with great results!Classes are being held and the Christians and their friends are receiving the Word with gladness.

Pompano Beach, Florida... at a recent outreach in the park, over 40 of our new evangelistic CDs were shared with the neighborhood. This CD Su Mejor Camino Ahora (Your Better Way Now) was used as an introduction to the gospel through an hour long radio magazine format. The central theme deals with belief in God and becoming His disciple.

Matanzas, Cuba...Timothy Archer delivered a complete set of our DVDs to Tony Fernandez in Matanza. He also gave Tony a projector that will allow him to project our television programs to large audiences.

San Jose, Costa Rica...Home of the international television network, Family Christian Network, that reaches all of Latin America. With Con La Biblia Abierta on the air every Friday night, we are able to offer the hope that comes only through Jesus in every home. As the Costa Ricans say, "Pura Vida!"

Nashville, TN is now receiving the Wednesday night broadcast of La Voz Alegre. WNQM 1300 AM called and requested to put the program on the air!

Now, more than one in ten people in Davidson County are Hispanic according to Marcus Washington of channel 5 News in Nashville. Spanish speaking people in the Nashville area will hear the good news of Jesus through this weekly program.

Our Cuban brothers have requested this project, worked to train ministers to do the follow-up, and had great results from our previous AM radio broadcast, with 345 baptisms.

My dear sister in Christ held her face in her hands and cried with joy at seeing her family in Cuba sharing their faith.

Others smiled with joy, knowing the tides of change are rippling across their
beloved homeland for Christ.

Pray for Results!

Getting to know Christ through understanding the Gospel is our goal. May the
P.O. Box in Cuba, once again, be overflowing with requests for Bible studies to
answer people's spiritual questions.

Fund raising is needed for this project. I have been on the road sharing this
opportunity for Cuba and asking for the funds required to pay for it. In the last month I have spoken at eight different churches and events to increase awareness of the need for this project... NOW. 530 Plus People Celebrated Christ at the Latin-American National Preachers and Leaders Meeting

Sharing Christ through media is an exciting way to bring people to an understanding of the love of Christ. Seeing, hearing, experiencing the Good News of Christ through the many media venues is the future. At the conference many people came by and spoke to me about how they are using our evangelistic media tools to reach their friends and neighbors for Christ.

Cuba, the Caribbean, and Venezuela

Your Help is Needed for a New Opportunity to Share Christ

Sitting on top of the Morro Castle in Havana one evening, I thought about the many Christian ministers and believers who had been held as prisoners in the Castle during the last 50 years, some I know personally. During their long incarceration these heroes of the faith endured physical, mental and emotional suffering, and separation from their families for the name of Jesus Christ, right here in this place.

Then at 9:00 PM, "BOOM!" The antique cannon was fired from the top of the Castle over the harbor sending a message that it was 9:00 PM in Havana. I thought of the power of God's message, how it can explode into the hearts of people changing their lives forever. What will it take to enter every home in Cuba with the message of the Gospel of Jesus?

People everywhere in Cuba, from the cities to the mountainside cabins, would tell me about their desire to share Christ with their friends and family. What topics and messages did they believe we should broadcast to help them do this? Yes, spiritual and practical messages of hope and sound advice for improving their daily lives, such as:

· Health tips
· Family counseling
· Financial advice
· Wholesome and uplifting music
· Programs with non-political content

Today, a new opportunity has arisen for Cuba, the whole Caribbean, and Venezuela.

27 Million People Will Hear the Gospel

Trans World Radio or Radio Trans Mundial, as they are known in Latin America, is considering offering us a time-slot to broadcast into Cuba with a strong AM signal from the country of Bonaire. The 100,000 watt radio station broadcasts on 800 AM and reaches all of Cuba, the Caribbean, and Venezuela. Also, in the near future, this station will expand to be a 500,000 watt radio station.

CUBA - 2011
Christ in Cuba
Many people believe they will never be able to share Christ in Cuba. For many years this was true. But, now a new energy and a trained ministry force is emerging in Cuba from a long history of religious repression.

I praise God every day that I have the freedom to worship, move around freely from place to place, and to buy the essentials I need to make my life comfortable. For nine days in June I was able to return to Cuba and experience the changes that are taking place.

Day one in Cuba we met with the Minister of Religion to carefully explain why we were in Cuba and the humanitarian "good will" we have done and intend to do for their country. She listened intently, shared many of her perspectives as it related to the Cuban people and then welcomed us to travel across Cuba to visit our evangelists and to learn about her country. She also shared some of the projects that she has approved in the past, like remodeling and construction of some older homes and buildings to be used for worship. The future church activities? Those projects will be subject to her approval.

The beauty of Christianity is that Christ is being preached in many nations without a political agenda. So, while respecting the local laws and customs, God has kept the door of opportunity open for us to continue working closely with our Cuban brothers and sisters in Christ.

Media: Through training, we also have the ability of giving our brothers and sisters a voice in media for their faith. Public radio and TV are highly controlled, but I did enjoy some training time to record messages that will be useful in Cuba. Stay tuned for what God has in store!

People are reaching out for the good news of Christ! The media ministry is booming as our Cuban ministers, for 10 or more years, have been sharing Con La Biblia Abierta VHS then DVD's with people all over the island.

What are the future opportunities for sharing Christ in Cuba?
The Cuban church tells us their needs, and we listen...

1. We have learned that we can have a more effective outreach in Cuba by using an AM signal out of Bonaire. The last time we had access to an AM signal in Cuba 345 souls were baptized in two years.
To broadcast our present one hour radio program, La Voz Alegre, once a week it will cost $1,698.66 per month. In Cuba, there are souls that are receptive and are "hungering and thirsting after righteousness". Therefore this need for Cuba is number one on my list. You can help by making a one-time or monthly contribution to this effort. The time for Cuba is now.

2. Training seminars in Havana that have trained preachers for 10 years needs funding to continue.
3. A vehicle is needed for the minister directing the radio program follow-up from Matanzas.
4. The church building in Santiago de Cuba, needs reconstruction.
5. The church in Las Tunas where Ennio preaches needs a meeting place.
6. DVD duplicating equipment is needed to improve the media outreach.
7. A farm donated to the church needs a lot of equipment and man-hours to meet the goals of this unique resource. The focus of this outreach is to supply food for conferences, evangelists, and to become a training farm. Members of the church can learn to farm, then move to other areas and duplicate this project in other parts of the country.

Of course, the list goes on.

In Cuba, we have the opportunity to become the voice and hands of Jesus.

What do the Dominican Republic, Miami, California, and Madagascar have in common?

La Voz Alegre, The Happy Voice radio program

Santos Feliz Ruiz traveled from Barahona, Dominican Republic to Miami, then on to join me in California at the Pepperdine Lectureships to represent World Christian Broadcasting(WCB). We recorded, in front of a live audience, the hour-long radio program, La Voz Alegre, The Happy Voice.

Understanding the needs of people, and how they are hurting, allows us to share Christ’s love with them. Interviewing Santos, he explained his work as a minister of the Gospel and a Clinical Psychologist. He is using his experience to develop a radio program that focuses on the emotional needs of our listeners, giving them solid counseling advice using God's Word.

In addition to working with four local churches, Santos has teamed up with the medical and psychiatric doctors at the Regional University Hospital. These professionals have found his knowledge of God’s word to be a great help in meeting the needs of mental health patients. This knowledge will bring valued advice to our radio listeners.

Music can bring people and cultures together. Carlos Gonzales is both producer and singer for the Acapella group, Voces. During his “live” interview he demonstrated the harmony of the music and song, with visual effects from nature.
We even sang a song together bilingually. As his music played, Carlos described his ministry and how English speaking congregations can meet the needs of their Latin communities and encourage bilingual worship. Carlos offered his work free of charge to churches that are interested in using the songs, music, and visual effects.

True Stories of the Bible, this segment is an opportunity for the listener to learn English as a Second Language using the Bible as literature. In this radio spot Brenda Morgan read a Bible story with an animated voice, as if trying to grab the listeners’ interest using simple English. Santos then read the Bible story in simple Spanish. ”How much of the story did you understand?” I asked. Then concluded with a commercial offering a free World English Institute course to study on line or by mail.

"La Cucaracha, La Cucaracha", that is what Paul Ladd, Senior Correspondent for WCB, began singing as I was going to interview him. But, he enjoyed turning the tables on me, and interviewed me instead. I was able to express my love for Latin Americans and the joy I have of reaching into their homes with the message of Jesus through radio, television and the Internet.

What do France, Finland, Asia, and Latin America have in common?

In May, representatives from these parts of the world, plus several other countries, participated in the National Association of Shortwave Broadcaster's annual meeting.

Topics of current political and sociological interest were discussed as the Internet and other media is blocked in several countries. But, shortwave radio is freely being received. This allows us to share the message of Christ beyond the borders and restrictions of countries and dictators.

World Christian Broadcasting is looking forward to reaching the 186 million households of Latin America that have shortwave radios. I shared our vision for Christ-centered programming that addresses the daily needs of Latin Americans. The show-stopper was my Miami connection photo of me bicycling by an alligator in the Everglades. That brought people to their feet!

Koi Hai Tan shared the plans to begin broadcasting soon from Madagascar into Latin America, Africa, India, and all of the Arabic speaking nations of the world. Listening to Jerome Hirigoyen of "Teledifusion de France" present the importance of their shortwave operations was eye opening. In addition to their television, Internet, and AM/FM radio operations, shortwave radio is an essential part of their strategy to reach the world. Our purpose, of course, is to bring the message of Jesus to everyone.

Possibilities…

Prison, what possilbilities do people have there?

Thanks to the efforts of Gary Wyder, a long-time prison minister in Florida, an
opportunity may be opening up. DVD sets of the television program Con La Biblia Abierta and radio program La Voz Alegre will be placed in the prison libraries. These evangelistic programs will be available for inmates to check-out and, hopefully, find Christ.

How are you sharing Christ? Let's see...
It’s a warm Saturday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. What activities
could you do to relax after a week of work in South Florida? Go to the beach,
a park, or a Christian radio seminar?

One by one 27 people arrived at our radio production workshop last Saturday to learn how to reach the lost through radio. Franklin and his family even flew over from the Dominican Republic to attend the seminar. Each person that attended has dreams of participating in sharing Christ’s eternal message through the radio ministry.

In Santo Domingo, Franklin has an Internet radio program Compartiendo la Verdad. He believes the need is growing to reach out through media. His dream is to establish a Christian radio station in the Dominican Republic.

This event was hosted by Mario and Iliana Motino serving at the Griffin Rd. congregation. We thank them for making us feel so welcome. In just a few months this couple has learned how to record their own radio program called Consejos de Vida, Advice for Life which is already on the air as part of our Monday night broadcast on WRMI and WINB.

I found the level of enthusiasm of each student very encouraging. Some expressed a great desire to help us reach our production goals for future radio spots that will broadcast from Madagascar. We will continue with our next advanced workshop, on April 16th, where we plan to conduct recording sessions.

How are you sharing Christ?
A cool Sunday afternoon at the park: kids kicking soccer balls, men throwing a football around, and Christians singing canciones and worshiping God. What,
singing in the park?

Taking the message of Jesus to the community! People were in the park that may never enter a church building. Their day might have started out with a soccer ball, football, or just a stroll in the park. But, as they saw a group of Christians worshiping under the trees, they became interested in what was going on, asked some questions, and some even joined in.

The curious looks and smiles on the neighbors faces as they shared food and chatted with the members of the Iglesia de Cristo in Pompano Beach, and a visiting youth group, was precious. This outreach event was organized by our radio partners, Carlos and Maribel Preciado.

They have been working at a church plant in Pompano, being guided by Jim Holway and the LAMP (Latin American Mission Project), which I am a member of the coordinating committee. What a joy to see the love of Christ shared.

How are you sharing Christ? You are sharing Christ through your partnership
and support of this ministry. You can be confident that you are sharing God's word, making it accessible to unbelievers.

By Rex Morgan “O hermano Rex, cuantos años han pasado en el trabajo del Señor…” “Dear Brother Rex, how many years have passed in the work of the Lord…” So many wonderful warm hugs and sweet kisses from our sisters and brothers in Christ were seen everywhere during the Dia de Confraternidad, Day of Brotherly Love. Since 1984, this time of refreshing and Biblical instruction has lifted our hearts from the everyday struggles and cares of life. What a joy to worship and fellowship with more than 500 of our loving Latin American Christian friends. Teaching & Challenging the youth to own up to Christ, name Him as their Savior, and share Him with their friends and family. I shared with them the idea of using technology for evangelism. Asking the teens, “How many of you have more knowledge about technology than your parents?” Almost all 65 present raised their hands immediately! Channeling young men and women's knowledge of computers, smart phones, and social media for Christ is important now, and for the future. Signing up for the Radio Production Training Seminar Future: Who will reach out to people with the word of God answering their tough questions? Why should God care for me? Who is God and how can I get close to him? Marriage: Why stay married for life? Who does that? Why should I keep my child? No one cared for me. God knows the right people to do this and he has been sending them my way. There is a lot of excitement among God's people. Many want to be trained in radio/Internet/media production so they can reach out to the struggling mother or drug ensnared father with God’s word. So, February 23 and 24th the Siempre Familia team in Dallas were trained.

They have very creative and different ideas for developing their programming. Do you enjoy a good laugh? The Siempre Familia team wants to use comedic dramas about family life to interest people in following Christ. Reality with humor, a great attention getter! Pray for them and the people they serve.

I’m excited about the future. May God continue to bless us as we serve Him.

And the angels rejoice...

The angels rejoiced in heaven again this month!

Guillermina had her doubts. Her son, Bill, had gone off and joined the Church
of Christ youth group all on his own. So she rejected Bill’s new faith, but
that wasn't enough to bring him back to her. Later, Bill decided to be trained
as a missionary, travel to a foreign country, and share the good news of
Christ’s love.

Now the years have gone by, and Bill was able to return home for a visit during
La Navidad, Christmas. This time, Guillermina was ready to learn more about
Christ, but she still had her doubts. So Bill studied with her and shared
the Con La Biblia Abierta DVDs on the Holy Scripture’s message about becoming a
Christian, Haciendo Discipulos. Guillermina's doubts and fears were finally
answered!

I wish you could have seen the glow of love and pride on Bill’s face as he
showed me the video of his mother being baptized last week. Beautiful, the
full circle of a family united in Christ… and the angels rejoiced.

This month Bill returned to Leon, Mexico armed with a Snowball microphone,
recording software loaded into his computer, and training materials to
encourage other potential radio talent in Mexico. He is also carrying a set of
124 DVD episodes of the Con La Biblia Abierta program to freely duplicate and
distribute in Mexico. Please pray for this young man and his fiancée, Leticia,
as they rejoin their mission team in Leon.

WHAT'S GOING ON?

Happy New Year!

Media is everywhere. From the rural farmer to the city business person, from the streets to the high-rises of South America and beyond, access to electronic technology is multiplying around the world. It’s a technological tsunami of opportunity for Christians to share the loving message of Christ!

God in his divine providence has enabled us to develop and use our talents during “such a time as this”. Queen Esther was chosen by God to be used at just the right time to save the Jewish nation, Esther 4: 14.

Caracas, Venezuela recieves the message of Christ via our radio and television broadcasts

We too, are seriously looking at God’s mission for us at “such a time as this”. Now is the time for His message to penetrate the hearts and homes of millions of people every day.

University Students: Post-modern, or not, they love using media!

Listening to students record radio scripts and negotiating for radio airtime was a thrill. It was all a part of a series of special classes in Spanish which I taught at the 87th Harding Bible Lectureship.

Helping to spark an interest in young people to launch their dreams for sharing Christ, through understanding some of the realities of radio production and broadcasting, was main goal. Students came to class with their laptops ready to download the free audio recording program Audacity and to learn editing techniques. Students from both the USA and Latin America attended each session. Some expressed interest in becoming involved immediately.

- “I would like to produce a Christian radio program to share the love of Christ to people my age in Costa Rica.”
-“I want to do mission work somewhere in Latin America. Using media to do that is the way to go.”

Living in an age where our young people grow up as experts in technology, now is the time to teach them to use it for the Lord. While there are thousands of doors waiting to be knocked, there are millions of doors waiting to be opened for Christ through the use of media. The ease with which these young people use their computers and other technologies opens up a great opportunity for sharing Christ with the world. Hopefully, some will adopt the vision: Accelerating Evangelism in Latin America through Media.

DVD copies of the Spanish television program Con La Biblia Abierta are being put in the hands of more and more local evangelists. Requests for this evangelistic tool are increasing.

Spanish conferences in both Orlando, Florida and Tulsa, Oklahoma brought over 40 evangelists and church leaders requesting sets of DVD’s for use in their local ministries. Con La Biblia Abierta is currently being broadcast weekly in 23 countries throughout North and South America. But, having the program in the hands of active evangelists, for immediate viewing, is fantastic! This is another form of personal evangelism that you are providing through this ministry.

Albums with 126 TV programs are being mailed to Latin American church leaders.

Yes, discovering the most talented people to put on radio is work! This summer our search put me at the Spiritual Growth Workshop in Orlando.

Julio and Fior Betia (right), actually recorded some of the episodes of their program, “Cooking with the open Bible,” while at the workshop. Some of the speakers were guests in their cooking program. It was great watching them record in their hotel room, and create all of the sound effects of the kitchen at the same time. The Lord blessed us at this year’s workshop with more than 400 Latin Americans in attendance. Some of the speakers have expressed a desire to be involved by recording radio spots for our broadcast.

Recently, Jeff White, Director of WRMI, invited me to visit the shortwave station to discuss the possibility of broadcasting our Christ-centered Spanish programs. Jeff’s proposal is to put our programming on the air every Monday night for 60 minutes for just $60.00. Great news! Half of the money needed has been pledged. Will you help with the other $30.00 a week to put us on the air for a full hour every Monday night? We will reach Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Central America and most of South America.

One dollar a minute, that is the cost of reaching Cuba with the message of Christ. The radio station, WRMI is designed to send a clear signal to saturate the Caribbean,

From Chef to Cooking for the Lord

What is it about that special moment when God transforms your life?

For Julio and Fior Betia, it was a perfect moment which blended their passion for cooking and their love for sharing Christ with others. In the new radio program Cocinando, Con la Biblia Abierta, the Betias dice crisp vegetables and slice tender meat, demonstrating “chef style” cooking, while blending in spiritual messages of hope. Listeners will hear recipes for Christian life in spontaneous discussions on topics like: eternal life, how to follow Jesus, and even “No, it wasn’t an apple”.
How did I get to know the Betias? As Director of the Spanish program for the Spiritual Growth Workshop I was blessed to meet Julio and Fior. A former professional chef, Julio wanted to use his 20 years of cooking experience to grab people’s interest, then to share the message of Christ with them. God has blessed the Betia’s delicious dream!
July’s hot topic is the Spiritual Growth Workshop in Orlando, Florida from July 29 – August 1st. The Spanish component of the Workshop is looking bigger and better this year. We hope more Latinos than ever will attend and be spiritually built up to serve the Lord.

On the side of a mountian in Colombia grows the richest coffee in the world. This is according to my friend and fellow minister Alberto Castañeda. He lives at the very foot of the mountain where Juan Valdez coffee is grown. Last month he handed me a bag of Valdez’s freshly ground coffee from his suitcase and said, “Brother, this is for you!”

Radio listeners seeking Christ need to hear Alberto’s faith story; a Colombian speaking to fellow South Americans about the love of our Lord.

Crippling pain and suffering were Alberto’s daily “cup of coffee”. This was a result of a spinal injury and several botched surgeries on his back. Faced with his last hope for corrective surgery both Alberto and his wife Miriam, knew that he may be paralyzed for life or even face possible death. By signing the legal documents freeing the doctor and hospital of all responsibility, this Godly couple prayed to God and moved forward by faith. Praise God, the surgery was a success!

The sweet aroma of Alberto’s enduring faith in Christ has always been shown by his everpresent smile. Alberto not only endured the challenges of his life, but triumphed over his suffering by leading others to Christ. Over the past 15 years, in Pereira, Colombia, Alberto and his family, by the grace of God, have planted three growing churches.

Alberto is partnering with us by writing and recording radio programs that will help Latin American families find answers to their daily challenges. Married 25 years to Miriam, with 2 adult children, he brings both spiritual and practical insights which will touch the hearts of his listeners.

Fishing in Venezuela?
I have been fishing many times. What I have learned is that I have always needed fresh bait.

Stepping into the wave I feel the tug and the pull of the tide. The roar of the surf is in my ears as I turn with my weighted net in my arms ready to cast it freely into the surf. I swiftly grab the pull rope and tug the weighted net to my feet. What do I see? What do I get? …
Casting the net for the first time on a network always makes you wonder, whose attention will you catch? The first response, “Would it be someone in Cuba?” That would be a natural conclusion. But God sent our signal beyond Cuba into Venezuela where “he” was waiting. José Elías was listing to our program on marriage and the family, The Guide of the Family, Abba Father.

“Modern couples need marriage counseling to hold their relationship together. The inscrutability of the modern life and the strong influence of individualism, threaten the survival of home and family. Anyway, marriage counseling becomes a crucial benefit to the survival of union and family.”

Guide of the Family, Abba Father is a program that speaks to the needs of the modern Latin American family. Marriage, dealing with providing for your family, and raising children, needs specific advice from God. We are encouraged by Jose Elias’ response. We pray that as Jose studies the Bible through World Bible School he will be the first of many that will respond to our radio programs. I believe, as the Lord casts His net of the Gospel over Latin America He will lovingly reach out to all the people that are seeking Him.

APRIL 2010

WE ARE ON THE AIR! I can’t say that everything started off without a March Madness glitch. That’s the “way it goes” in the world of media broadcasting.

• March 1st, Monday night at 9:00, I was in my backyard with my hand-held short wave radio checking for the new signal that would go right into Cuba, and reach as far as Argentina. My first efforts to locate the signal sounded like I was receiving messages from outer space aliens. When I finally was able to tune in, someone else’s English broadcast program was running because the station was having technical difficulty.
Ok, we had a false start.
• March 8th success! At 9:00 PM EST we were “on the air” in SPANISH. The programming also began streaming on the WWRB.org web site.
• March 15th… I tuned in with confidence only to hear the English broadcast again. March Madness! After a bit of station consultaion, at the top of the hour at 10:00 PM, the Spanish program was on the air.
• On March 22nd, I called the station before 9:00 PM just to check on the program, and got a surprise! Our broadcast was not only on the air; we had been on since 8:00 PM. A gift of an extra hour.

I know that we don’t live in a perfect world, but God continues to work things out for His good purpose.

OTHER GREAT NEWS:
696… What a number! During the month of March all of the Latin American television and radio efforts resulted in 696 responses! People seeking the “Good News” of Christ are requesting free Bible courses and prayers. They listen to the radio program or watch the television program then call to receive spiritual assistance. This is a testimony to God. He is using the media to enter into the homes and hearts of Latin Americans.
Remember, the financial responsibility to continue the answering service keeps climbing higher per response. May God, through your donations, provide the financial increase to continue these outreach efforts.

A God-inspired talent search producing Christ-centered media? Yes, that is what is needed for media programming to get the gospel out to the people who are seeking Christ. Radio Broadcast to Cuba Starts!

Have you wondered lately what you are doing for missions?

Well, as of March 8th, the people of Cuba began to receive our new, Christ-centered Spanish radio program.
When? Every Monday night from 9 p.m. to midnight!

Just ninety miles from South Florida, Cuba is a nation of souls hungering for the knowledge of Jesus and His saving grace. God has opened a new door to allow His message to be shared with this island nation. Our missionary, Rex Morgan has secured airtime that will reach an audience in Cuba now!

The new Spanish broadcast will be “alive” with current topics and themes about Christ and Christians’ daily spiritual needs. The montage of presenters will include:
• Rex Morgan, short spiritual messages and introducing the programs’ segments
• Efrain Valverde, Con la Biblia Abierta
• Larry White, Lampara a los Pies
• Jorge Pineda, Reflexiones del Alma

These broadcasts will include great short messages that express belief, memories, exhortations, and prayers that relate to the hearts of Latin Americans.

In Matanza, Cuba, local evanagelist Tony Fernandez will respond to any who contact the program asking for more information. In our earlier broadcasting efforts from South Florida into Cuba, Tony coordinated the follow-up that resulted in 345 baptisms in two years.

We are blessed to have these speakers on the air in Cuba. Also, knowing there is a terrific response team in Cuba is wonderful! Please pray for God’s blessing on this partnering effort.

Have you thought about how to win an audience of unbelievers? Having been involved in directing some 25 Vacation Bible School over the years, I know there were certain elements that would attract non-members into our audience. We had to offer something that they needed. It was also a must to have good entertainment value to hold their attention. We served up great dramas, lessons, the cookies, punch, and even prizes. Over the years many came and received exactly what they desired. But, they also left with the message of Jesus on their hearts resulting in many conversions.

As we look to building an audience for our radio programming in Latin America I can’t help but ask the following question: What will Latin Americans tune-in to? I also ask” What did Jesus do to gather an audience?

Latin Americans are like people everywhere. They want good advice in several areas of life and good entertainment. While our main objective is to teach the audience about Jesus and his saving message, we must gain and maintain our audience to do so. Jesus gathered his audience several times by meeting the physical and emotional needs of the people he met along the way. While he healed, fed, and even wept with his audience he spoke to their hearts by using illustrations with family, health, finance, agriculture, and many other things that his audience could understand.

With this in mind, our basic radio format for Latin America is taking shape. Those who study and practice missions they understand the holistic method that addresses the physical, emotional and spiritual needs that people have. Our format will be a holistic media missions approach. To reach the unbeliever looking for something good on the radio our one hour daily broadcast for World Christian Broadcasting will have the appearance of commercial radio. It will include several short segments that will give good advice in the following areas: Family, Health, Financial Matters, Agriculture, Youth Matters, Senior Issues, and more. There will even be some popular music with good messages. While the listener has tuned in for the above mentioned advice and entertainment, impactful spiritual messages will be woven between all of the advice and music the unbelieving listener was looking for. While we are meeting the needs of people seeking answers for their daily lives we pray that they will also request a free Bible course that will lead them to study God’s word and become Christians. I am grateful that we have the example of Jesus, who gave all he had to give, that he might save some.

A spiritual experience that impacted your life was…

Carlos: When the Lord let Maribel go into Mexico City without a visa. In front of all the guards and with the Chief of Immigration making arrangements to deport her back to the U.S., we hugged and the Chief of Immigration came out of his office called us in and said, “I do not know why, but I'm going to let her in.” Then he left and said to everyone, “She stays.” Then he signed the paperwork. One of the guards said to the other guard, "They had to call to the highest power to make this happen!” The other guard asked, "Who, the Chief?" “No,” he replied. And with his finger he pointed up to the sky and said, "Him.”
Maribel: More recently it is the way God made us a family by bringing our (adopted) children Giancalos and Isabella into our lives. It brings tears to our eyes and a deep appreciation for God.

As a couple who has been married 12 years, one thing you enjoy doing together is…

Carlos: Go for long walks and talk. Have a nice dinner together. Go to the movies. Go for a couple of days somewhere we have not been.
Maribel: We love to sing, and we really enjoy putting the word of God to music. It is great when Carlos sometimes enters the house, opens the door and we are singing the same song.

When I was a child one of my favorite heroes was…

Carlos: My Dad. My parents divorced when I was nine so I never saw any flaws in him because he was not around for the most part of my life. To this day I still think he is a great guy and a hero to many that know him.
Maribel: Superman, I believed he helped everyone. Also, Wonder Woman.

Translating and recording radio programs for broadcasting in Latin America is exciting to us because…

Carlos: It is a unique opportunity to use the gifts and abilities that God has given us to spread His word. We are honored to be able to do it.
Maribel: The idea of this ministry, of media and communication, excites me. When we are seeing our creator face to face, the radio work will continue to impact lives in every corner of the world. It is beautiful to think about that.

A great day in South Florida means….

Carlos: I would say a great day in South Florida is when we meet someone and share with them the love of Christ.
Maribel: As, our son, Giancarlo said in a recent conversation. I asked him, “How did your day go at the park?” He said, “Ma, it was excellent!” I responded, “Oh yeah..Did you have fun?” He answered enthusiastically, “Yes ma, I met some people at the park and I talked to them about Christ!”

As we begin developing radio programming for Latin America, God opens doors with both new and old friends that have the same interest as we do, winning lost souls! In the months to come, I will be introducing you to people that will be using their talents to bring Christ-centered messages.

Great music will be a major part of our programming. We pray that listeners looking for inspirational music, with wonderful messages, will tune in to KNLS, the World Christian Broadcasting station, and enjoy what they hear as they wait for spiritual guidance that will impact their lives.

To reach this goal, we have been talking to Carlos Gonzales. Carlos is the producer, composer, singer, and editor for the Spanish language A Capella quartet, “Voces”. He has already sent us several recordings that will be a blessing to this ministry. In addition, Carlos, as an expert in music, will be a close advisor to Rex for all of our selections in music. Carlos is also the Involvement Minister for the Inland Valley Church of Christ in Los Angeles, a bilingual congregation. Recently, Carlos visited the World Christian Broadcasting studios in Franklin, Tennessee with Rex. Taking note of all of the language groups being reached by this ministry he responded: “We are way behind in reaching Latin America, let’s get busy!”

Greetings in the love or the Lord:

On Friday, March 6th Susana Rojas , an 87 year old grandmother was baptized. She is from the community of Conchali in Santiago.

Also on the 28th of February and March 1st four of us, Jorge Paredes Lelie Carreno, Yanina Vergara and I visited the church of Christ in Chillan which is located in the eighth region of our courntry. There were eleven of us that met.

We also were able to travel to the church of Christ in Curico in the seventh region. On this trip, one of our elders from Los Nogales, Luis Araya and his wife Edith, and me participated together. The church in Cuiro consits of two members and began just recently last year.

All of these activities are part of the project we call the “Vocational Training of Workers”. During this year we will travel throughout all of Chile sharing seminars. We ask for your prayers for these activities and that God will bless you in your ministries.

Isn’t it great to hear how our brothers and sisters in Latin America are traveling from place to place teaching, baptizing and then giving ongoing training? I know personally that these brethren from the church of Christ in Los Nogales journey up and down the nation of Chile to follow-up on every interested contact. Take time to share their activities with your children’s Bible classes to inspire them. Show them how that Christians today are going on missionary journeys as they follow the great example of the apostle Paul and others in the first century.

The Indian Ocean and Latin America

An island set in the Indian Ocean 248 miles off the south east coast of Africa. It sounds romantic. But that’s not the reason the location is being used to communicate with those who speak the romance languages of Spanish and Portugues. So, what does the Indian Ocean have to do with reaching Latin America?

We will reach Latin America from our site in the Indian Ocean. This is definitely God doing, “exceedingly abundantly above all that we may ask or think”. But, when God opens the door, we reach out and place our hand in His, then walk through the door with Him. When World Christian Broadcasting invited me to be Sr. Producer for Latin America the question arose, how can we produce daily radio programs for shortwave and continue to stay on the air with our television programs?

The answer came by forming a partnering relationship between Christian Productions International (CPI) and World Christian Broadcasting (WCB). As a result, CPI’s television programs “With the Open Bible” continue on the air in 23 countries’ including our 50 states. We see the opportunity to cross a new frontier from the Indian Ocean with WCB on shortwave radio and the Internet as a God blessed opportunity. The BBC reports that 187,000 households in Latin America listen to shortwave radio. It is also a medium that cannot be blocked by boarders or governments.

Today four shortwave towers and station are being built on the site that will reach the Arabic speaking world, Africa, India, and Latin America. By faith, we plan to produce enough daily one hour radio programs to be on the air 365 days a year in Spanish and with the same goal in Portuguese.

Our Audience Defines Our Format

Our target audience is unbelievers who would never tune into purely religious broadcasting. Our main goal is to teach our listeners about Jesus and his saving message. We will strive to meet our listeners right where they are at in their needs. To do that we need to know where they are at culturally, socially, economically, their health issues, and most importantly their spiritual needs. With this in mind our program format is developing as a magazine of topics that will encourage success, keeping the listener tuned in, then, spiritual messages are woven throughout the hour. These messages will give them the opportunity to receive free Bible study materials.

A recent agreement with Health Talents International serves as an example of how we will utilize the talents we have in the church to develop this holistic media missions approach. Doctors and Nurse Practitioners working with HTI will write and record health tips that will be a regular part of our programming. Just as Jesus showed compassion toward the sick and their needs our expression of love and concern will be felt in the homes and hearts of our listeners. It is our hope that once they understand that we care about their physical and emotional issues, they will respond and get the help they need for their eternal souls.

The first worship service at Pompano was held on August 17th. More than 100 attended. They were members from several South Florida congregations, a testimony of how the churches encourage one another. Madagascar? Partnering With World Christian Broadcasting We Will Reach Latin America and Beyond

Rex Morgan invites Latin American and broadcasting experts to a think-tank in Dallas for our World Christian Broadcasting Latin American radio production.

In the spirit of cooperation and partnership Rex Morgan will team up with World Christian Broadcasting to serve as Sr. Producer for Latin America from Miami, Florida. With an understanding that our mission outreach, through television and radio programs, in the Spanish-speaking world must continue; Christian Productions International will work with WCB to produce daily radio programs in Spanish and Portuguese.

A plan now being developed to include our universities, Bible institutes and many others in script writing and recording. As a result we will work on building a library of materials for broadcasting that our producers can draw from daily.

World Christian Broadcasting has been broadcasting from Alaska for the past 25 years into China, Russian, and the Pacific Rim. They are now in the process of building shortwave towers in Madagascar that will target Africa, the Middle East in Arabic, and all of Latin America in Portuguese and Spanish. Also, as part of our agreement WCB will launch an Internet Radio Station that will broadcast the radio programs 24/7. This will reach, yet, a greater number of listeners.

Wow! Every Monday night our television program “Con La Biblia Abierta” enters the homes of Dish Network subscribers, and the number of responses increases every week. When I called the Sycamore Church of Christ in Cookville, TN about moving, by faith, to reach Hispanics in our 50 states, we didn’t know what God had in store. But, each week the amount of contacts have grown. The World Bible School staff in Austin, TX has continued to recruit Spanish-speaking teachers, and more seekers are into the Word. This is a testimony to God’s power, the faith of the church, and the reality that hundreds of souls want to take the time to study God’s Word, given the opportunity.

Open Door for “With the Open Bible” Television Program Targets Hispanics in 50 States

Are you interested in reaching the growing Hispanic population in your area? God continues to open doors of opportunity to make it easier. Recently one such door opened up. The Spanish-language evangelistic television program “With the Open Bible” produced by Christian Productions International will now be seen every Monday night at 8:00 on Dish Network. This television program, known in Spanish as “Con La Biblia Abierta” (“With the Open Bible”), has a growing international audience as it is seen on in 23 countries every Thursday afternoon. It has also been on the air in several US cities. Now, God has paved the way for this television program to reach across our fifty United States on a single network. Almavision is a television network based in Miami, Florida that is included in all packages offered by the Dish Network on channel 9413.

When the program’s producer, Rex Morgan, shared the news with our staff at World Bible School we came up with an agreement to place 1-800 number in the programs that would bring all of the contacts through World Bible School. Each program offers a free Bible correspondence course to its viewers. With this in mind World Bible School will be working to recruit Spanish-speaking WBS teachers in the USA to help with the follow-up of contacts that come to us from the television broadcasts.

This television program has had great success throughout the world in helping to reach the lost and strengthen churches of Christ. It is a Bible teaching program, with host Efrain Valverde A., which reaches out to Hispanics and speaks to their spiritual and family needs.

Helping to make this Dish Network broadcast possible is the Sycamore Church of Christ in Cookeville, Tennessee. They have decided to sponsor the weekly telecasts. This congregation is also heavily involved in World Bible School. In their congregation they have about 100 active World Bible School teachers with students in several parts of the world. They are also the congregation that launched the ministry known as “One Nation Under God”.

The telecast started January 14, 2008 at 9:00 PM ET the will continue each Monday night at the same time on Dish Network channel 9413. If you know of Spanish speakers in your area of the country please tell them about the program. IN CUBA 902 RESPOND TO OUR RADIO PROGRAMS WITH 151 SOULS BAPTIZED

Christian Productions International is pleased to function as the conduit that has placed radio programs from Herald of Truth, World Radio and our own program “With the Open Bible” on the air. These programs fill up 40 minutes a day, 5 days a week. In this partnership to spread the gospel in Cuba Tony Fernandez heads up the follow-up of our radio contacts. The following words are portions of an email he recently sent concerning the results of the radio programs:
Up to now in 2007 there have been 151 people baptized in Versalles, Matanzas. This Sunday the number should increase since last night we studied with a group in the settlement of Limones. This Sunday, November 25, 2007, ten people should come to be baptized.
We have sent 689 Bible courses. This number hasn’t been larger because in September we ran out of courses. We are working with a printer in Havana to print them. To date in 2007 we have received 902 letters, for an average of 82 letters a month. In all the letters they mention in a general way the three programs of the church of Christ. Very few specify one in particular.
We are also working in Cárdenas with a group of seven baptized radio listeners. In the house of one of them, Juan Miguel López, we are waiting on some construction repairs to finish on his home to initiate Sunday worship services, Lord willing, on December 2.
We have encouraged the brothers from the western center of the province to unite with us in opening new congregations. The brethren from the Jovellanos congregation (50 kilometers from Matanzas) have begun two new congregations in Coliseo and San Miguel de los Baños. The brothers from Colon (80 kilometers from Matanzas) are working to establish a congregation in the community of Calimete (100 km. from Matanzas) where we have baptized two people.
